Education Experience 2013/14

Practicum 1 (St.Mary's School)

This was my first practicum ever I was in a grade 8/9 math, Phys. Ed setting. My job was to mainly observe the classroom and see how it was oriented. Furthermore my job as a student teacher was to dress professionally, observe and reflect upon my experience in group mentor meetings on what I saw, what happened and what stood out along with any changes that I would perhaps make. As time progressed and the students became more familiar to myself as a teacher, my role adapted to more than an just observation, but as well into a participant in the teaching process. As the course progressed I began to feel as a real teacher as in building great relationships with the students, marking quizes, and helping out with homework assignments. As the course progressed I had to take another role as a teacher and build a lesson and teach it in the classroom.

Practicum 2 (St.Patrick School)

This was my second practicum of my first year in the Education program I taught grade 2 As this was my 2nd term, I was expected to do more than just be an observer in the classroom. With saying that, first year Education students in their practicums are only expected to observe the classroom. This term my main role was as always build great connections with the students and also to help students that were having troubles and needed assistance. I would also occasionally take on lessons and teach the class on assignments. As well I would work one on one with a student and either working on their math solving, or listen to them read their books to me and correct them along the way. This term I was also responsible to build a lesson plan and teach it to the class. My lesson plan focused on grade 2 Physical Education, therefore I introduced a new game that incorporated many of the Curriculum General and specific outcomes.
