Assessment and Evaluation
Prior to starting my PS1, I was prepared with assessment strategies that I learned in my university courses, such as assigning number grades to the students worksheets and assignments, but when I got into my grade 3 classroom, my T.A. had a discussion with me and advised me that it’s not going to work for grade 3 students, and that instead of doing that I should go through each individual students work and simply write down a genuine comment such as “good job”, “great writing”, or “good start, but needs some more improvement”. Furthermore during that time my T.A. has also advised me that stickers work very well with grade 3 students when they have completed their work efficiently, such as my T.A. uses every morning when the students finished writing in their agendas, and when they have been signed by the parents for the previous day. It was very fascinating to see how well students were progressing throughout the short time that I was at Dr. Gerald Probe Elementary School.
